Superintendent’s Message

Maura Downing, Ed.D.

Superintendent

Welcome to the San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupational Program!

We are glad you are here and appreciate your interest in the work we do to support students, schools, and our six partner district communities. Whether you are a student exploring opportunities, a parent seeking options, or a partner looking to collaborate, we hope this site gives you a clear sense of our commitment to preparing students for success.

My connection to this organization is both professional and deeply personal. I began my teaching career here in 2009, and that experience shaped my commitment to Career Technical Education and the life-changing opportunities it provides students. After serving in other ROPs and the Community College system, I was honored to return in 2020 as Superintendent. Coming back to lead this organization during a pivotal time has been both a privilege and a responsibility I take seriously.

At the core of our work is our shared vision: Together, we empower students to confidently pursue their futures through rigorous, industry-aligned Career Technical Education that successfully equips them for a rapidly evolving workforce. This vision drives every decision we make and every partnership we build.

Our mission brings that vision to life each day: Through high-quality Career Technical Education, we inspire and prepare students to find their future. Through strong partnerships with our member districts, industry leaders, and community organizations, we provide meaningful, relevant learning experiences that connect directly to students’ goals beyond high school.

We are in an exciting period of growth and evolution. In addition to strengthening our district partnerships, we are expanding into the charter school space, broadening access to our programs and meeting students where they are. We are also proud to reintroduce in-person classes at our district office for the first time since before the pandemic, creating new opportunities for hands-on learning and centralized program offerings.

Our programs go beyond technical skill development. We are intentional about cultivating critical thinking, collaboration, and adaptability, ensuring students are prepared not just for their first job, but for long-term success in a rapidly changing economy.

I am incredibly proud of our students, staff, and partners who make this work possible every day. Together, we are building pathways that lead to opportunity, purpose, and impact.

Thank you for visiting our site and for your continued support of our mission.
